Holding an exclusive high profile event with multiple functions? Then the Whanganui War Memorial Centre is the answer. A complete Centre rental package is available. Used for nationally significant events such as Tech-Ex, Youth of the Nation and many more, our venue is the ideal place to hold an event requiring space, flexibility, and the highest quality facilities. You feel a sense of elegance and spaciousness as you enter the foyer onto the beautiful marble effect floor. The Lower Foyer boasts a fantastic stained glass window which lights up the Book of Remembrance. The staircase winds up to the Upper Foyer which has a New Zealand native Matai polished floor and excellent use of natural light, again through our specially commissioned stained glass windows. The Upper Foyer then leads you to the Centre’s three main spaces:
A very special wedding venue has been created consisting of two interconnected semicircular gardens. The first garden is ideal for your guests to meet and as a place to serve drinks if desired. The second garden is perfect for setting out chairs and holding the ceremony. Mature trees, shrubs and colourful fragrant roses plus box hedging feature in each area. The garden is very sheltered and secluded with rose archways and several seats are provided. Guests are treated to a bridal walk through to the wedding garden which allows them to view most of the two acre garden. The bridal cars can be driven up the grass avenue to provide off road parking and ready access to the wedding garden. Guests are able to angle park their cars safely off the road. The garden won the South Canterbury Horticultural Society Spring Garden Competition for Large Gardens in 2012. A moderate fee is charged for the use of the garden for wedding, inquiries will show that a number of complimentary extras are included.
We have a range of accommodation from Mini Studios to our beautiful Penthouse Suite. We are situated right on the lake and have a lovely onsite caf? Espresso Cove that also has a liquor license. Newly restored Gothic masterpiece in city centre.To help you begin to think about your ceremony we offer A New Zealand Prayer Book which contains three versions of the marriage service. All three services can be adapted if you wish and you can mix and match sections from each as you prefer. The clergy are happy to assist you through the process. If you choose to write your own service, the prayer book services are a useful outline for what needs to be in it. The beauty of St Matthew’s architecture attracts many couples to take their pre-wedding photographs in our church. There is a fee of $150 per hour if you hold your session between 9am and 5pm on Monday to Friday. A fee of $260 per hour if you hold a session on Saturday or Sunday. We also require a $100 deposit if your session is on Saturday or Sunday. Other things to think about for the service include readings and music, and who you would like to participate. Secular and religious readings are frequently used during the ceremony. There are ways to personalise even the most traditional service. Other traditions have become popular such as the lighting of a Unity Candle. This is your day and we are here to help you along the way.
